Hello my name is Ashley Nevelle and I am currently scheduled to graduate from Oakland University in the Summer of 2012. Once I graduate I will have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies with a concentration in science and medical/pharmaceutical sales along with a Minor in Human Resource Development.

I have had many volunteer experiences for many non-profit organizations that will help me be prepared for the job market. Also, being part of Oakland University’s volleyball athletic program for all four years really made me understand how important organization and people skills are. What I took most out of the experience was the fact you are representing something bigger than yourself and the way you act is a direct representation of the University. This prepared me for what it will be like in a business and I have developed the professional skills needed to be an asset.

Narrative

I am an undergraduate student at Oakland University in the Integrative Studies Program. Integrative studies option has given me the privilege to be able to make my own course study and tailor it to my career and educational goals. The name of my course of study is Medical/Pharmaceutical Sales with a minor in Human Resource Development. Courses in management, health sciences, communication, human resource development, music, writing, Spanish, English, and biology have laid a strong educational foundation for me.

My ultimate goal is to be a top performer at a successful sales company. I am very excited for my vision because I have developed many skills in my courses I have taken that will allow me to do this.

The courses in my plan of study directly integrate with the major and minor that I have chosen. I believe these classes are pushing me to my goal, giving me the experience and background needed to succeed. I was given the opportunity to integrate predominately communications, health sciences, and human resources into my plan of study. I believe that communication gives me the chance to explore people, which will be beneficial personally and professionally. I have really been able to apply what I have learned learning in the classroom to my volunteering experiences which include many different organizations. The combination of these areas will allow me to become more prepared in my career.

I can truly say that I look forward to the opportunity to be able to explain what an Integrative Studies degree has done for me. I can explain how my specific skills can benefit their company or business and why this was better than a traditional major for me.
